In Memory

1939 - 2005
"Through you can't see or touch me, I'll be near and if you listen with your heart you'll hear all my love around soft and clear. And then when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say, "Welcome Home."

I met Spike for the first time late in the day on Nov. 20, 1961 when we both arrived at the Newport Naval Station in a cold rain, our first day of Navy OCS. We were assigned to the same company (Foxtrot) same section (3) and assigned bunks next to each other. We soon learned we were both "Okies", I was born in Delaware County. We became good friends and went on liberty together every weekend. We graduated and were commissioned on April 13, 1962. I saw him infrequently over the years, the last time in 2002, but will always remember him as a real gentleman and a good friend.
