Greeting, Melissa.
Your website is amazing!
Until about a month ago, we knew nothing about our great-grandmother's =
family other than that her surname was Evans and she married my G =
Grandfather in Missouri.
Then my cousin found a box that apparently she had passed down to her =
daughter, then her daughter, and now her daughter. In it is a treasure =
trove of photos and hand-written notes.
We immediately started Googling and have determined the following:
My G grandmother's name was Leonora MELISSA Evans. (She married =
Professor Joseph Lucian Pritchett and moved to Huntsville, Texas around =
1885 where she died in the 1940's. They had 8 children.)
Her parents were Alexander Evans (brother of Malinda Evans Ross) and =
Jane Caroline Robberson (daughter of Allen Robberson and Mary =
Montgomery).
Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Evans and Elizabeth Leathers.
Her maternal great-grandparents were Hanna Patrick and Samuel Montgomery =
& Elizabeth Pettigrew and Abednigo Robberson.
And so on and so on.
In the box we found a copy of the picture of Lafayette Ross and Malinda =
Evans Ross that you posted. We had no idea who they were till now. (It =
should be a law that you have to put names and dates on the backs of =
photographs!)
I'm still a little fuzzy on it all, but it seems since my G grandmother =
was descended from Robbersons and Evanses, she must be related by blood =
to both Lafayette and Malinda. Right?
Here's a puzzle I hope you can solve. My G grandmother's mother, Jane =
Caroline Robberson married Alexander Evans. Her sister Mary Eveline =
ALSO married an Evans. Do you know which one, and how/if the two men =
were related? I cannot read the headstone for her that you posted. Is =
it possible that sisters married brothers?
I'm teaching full time, so don't have nearly the time to devote to this =
that I would like, but I will e-mail to you what we find as time permits =
if you are interested.
Best,
Marjorie Shaw
